Russian cities have a similar architectual pattern, consisting of a pre-20th Century central core, which is usually small and sometimes ornamented with a kremlin, surrounded by communist style blocs of flats and industrial districts. The university in Arkhangelsk was not equipped to host English speakers, but said it was on its way do doing so.
