Minsk is the lone one, hard to get a visa to Belarus. But once there, our group found nothing but friendliness. Some people want more integration with the West, but others pointed to the fact that Belarussian economy grows while the connected world economy steadily implodes. "Wait until the stimulus stops," one man said, "We're the Switzerland of the east, and want no part of that nonsense. So we don't have a McDonald restaurant, nor Tesco. So what? We enjoy more what is free." One thing UANT students crave is different perspectives.
